What is an MLS® System?
As part of their property buying or selling journey, most Canadians turn to REALTORS® who have access to a Multiple Listing Service® (MLS®) System to arm them with information about their property. Built on principles of cooperation, they also bring together REALTORS® who list properties on behalf of sellers and REALTORS® representing buyers. Placing listings on MLS® Systems increases exposure to a broad group of real estate professionals and their buyer clients; a win-win-win for all.
Nearly every homeowner in Canada has used, directly or indirectly, an MLS® System.
We commissioned research on preserving and extending Multiple Listing Service® Systems in Canada. The report found an intrinsic correlation between comprehensiveness and value:
“When more buyers consult an MLS® System, listing a property on an MLS® System becomes more attractive to sellers. Similarly, buyers are more likely to find an attractive home by consulting an MLS® System when more sellers list their home on an MLS® System. Home buyers and sellers both benefit as MLS® Systems become “thicker”.
