Our DEIA Commitments
We believe an ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism efforts is the right thing to do.
CREA is committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, inclusive and anti-racist environment for all our employees, volunteers and members.
We believe this ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism (DEIA) efforts is the right thing to do. It is also integral to the long-term success and sustainability of our association and will result in far-reaching benefits for our membership and beyond.
We recognize we are just beginning a long-term journey. Our current efforts are focused on gathering baseline metrics, identifying opportunities for improvement, and building DEI capacity throughout all departments and at all levels.
Diversity
We will work to recruit and retain employees at all management levels—and encourage the appointment and election of volunteers—who collectively reflect the rich diversity of Canada and the membership we serve, so they can bring unique perspectives to the table and together advance the association’s mission in more inclusive and innovative ways. We appreciate that these unique perspectives arise from a variety of dimensions of diversity, such as race, culture, religion, mental and physical abilities, age, sexual orientation and gender identity, including LGBTQ2+ identification.
Equity
We recognize that the individual needs of employees and volunteers may differ from person to person and that there are some groups in the workplace who are disadvantaged. We will treat employees and volunteers in a way that is truly equitable and make accommodations where possible to ensure every individual feels they can take an equal place at the table and give their best.
Inclusion
We will work to create and maintain an inclusive environment in which all employees and volunteers feel valued, respected and supported and that they can bring their authentic selves to work.
Anti-Racism
We acknowledge the existence of systemic racism in Canada, including within our association and industry, and will actively incorporate anti-racism into our DEIA approach. We will provide a safe space for conversations and learning about systemic racism. We will work to identify and remove barriers that may prevent employees as well as prospective and active volunteers who are Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC) from advancing within the association.
