Statement on CBC’s Marketplace Report
CBC’s Marketplace is focusing on the unacceptable and potentially illegal behaviour of some in the real estate industry. The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) categorically condemns all illegal behaviours and practices in the profession. We continue to support our provincial and territorial partners in efforts to strengthen consumer protection and discipline enforcement.
Every day, REALTORS® help buyers and sellers with one of the largest and complex financial transaction most of them will ever make. In any profession, those who violate the standards and ethics of the majority of practitioners – who bring into question the commitment and incredible positive impact – harm the industry as a whole.
CREA works on behalf of more than 140,000 REALTOR® members, setting standards for professionalism, providing leading technology tools, including Canada’s No.1 real estate platform, REALTOR.ca, and advocating for policy and regulations that allow more Canadians to achieve the goal of homeownership.
We have also collaborated with Federal government departments in developing important consumer information, such as the Homebuyers’ Road Map, and tools to help REALTORS® comply with Federal laws and regulations.
